My Priorities

Your Voice. Your Schools. My Commitment.

RAISE THE BAR FOR ACADEMICS!

My goal is to have high academic standards for all of our students regardless of race & ethnicity. Our students deserve a rigorous education that prepares them for life after graduation. But according to the 2024 State Test results, the reality is alarming:

📉 Nearly 75% of Roaring Fork students are BELOW grade level in math, and

📖 Over 65% are BELOW grade level in reading!

We must ask hard questions: Are our goals bold enough?

Are our classrooms challenging and supportive enough to drive meaningful academic growth?

Are we equipping our teachers to help every student succeed?

Let’s raise the bar together. Every student in the Roaring Fork Valley deserves a chance to succeed, and that starts with clear expectations, strong instruction, and support for every learner.

EMPOWER PARENTS!

My goal is to partner with parents. Parents should be kept in the loop regarding all decisions at school. Parents are not obstacles—they are essential partners in their children’s education.

Yet parent engagement across the district fell short last year:

📊 Only 23–25% of families responded to the district’s own surveys.

🗣 Trust varies widely—77% of Hispanic families feel respected, compared to only 57% of white families.

And when it comes to hot-button issues like the Gender Toolkit and 3Rs Curriculum, too many parents are feeling left out of the conversation.

Let’s make parent involvement real, not just performative. Respectful dialogue, transparency, and responsiveness must become the standard.

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY!

My goal is for the school board & superintendent to be transparent with the community regarding school lessons & policies. Parents shouldn’t have to dig to understand what’s happening in their schools.

In 2024, the district released an Equity Audit and implemented major curriculum changes like the Gender Toolkit—without meaningful community involvement.

That has to change.

Families deserve to know what’s being taught, how decisions are made, and why policies are put in place. Let’s shine a light on the process and build trust through open communication.

When transparency is missing, trust erodes and that creates division. But when parents are informed and invited into the conversation, it builds unity, understanding, and shared responsibility. Schools work best when families are seen as true partners, not outsiders looking in. Let’s restore that partnership.

SUPPORT OUR TEACHERS!

Our teachers are the heart of our schools and they deserve to feel supported and valued.

Right now, only 35% of Roaring Fork staff say they feel supported by Human Resources. That’s not good enough.

Teachers face real challenges: the high cost of living, rising healthcare costs, and unclear communication from district leadership. If we want to attract and keep the best educators, we must do better.

Let’s listen to our staff, invest in their success, and create a work culture that encourages excellence and retention.

HIRE FOR EXCELLENCE!

Representation matters—but qualifications must always come first.

The district has set hiring targets to increase Hispanic staff representation to mirror the student population (~56%).

While this is a meaningful goal, it must be balanced with a commitment to hire the most qualified educators.

Every classroom deserves a teacher who is ready, experienced, and passionate about student success. Let’s be clear: hiring should never be about quotas. It should be about quality, character, and commitment.
